Have you been wondering if truth exists anymore? Truth is to be based on fact and reality. “True” truth is genuine, accurate, exact and balanced. “Today’s culture may tell you that truth is relative or that each person can make up their own truth. However, the Bible tells us that there is only one truth, and it comes from God. If something doesn’t line up with the Word of God, then it’s not the truth.” (Quote from Pastor John Wellman)
In a recent documentary, a journalist made a statement that caught my attention. He said a well-known creator of children’s movies, games, and television shows had subtly been intertwining untruths and godless ideas into children’s minds for many years! One of those subtle ideologies and untruths was “you don’t have to listen to your parents or do what they say!” As parents or grandparents, we get busy and often find ourselves tired and not paying attention to what we are allowing to saturate our children’s hearts and minds. Case in point: A university in Australia has been encouraged to ditch the terms “mother” and “father” in their university curriculum in order to become more gender inclusive. Fathers will be referred to as the “non-birthing” parent and the term “mother” replaced with “gestational parent.” How and why has this happened? I believe one of the biggest reasons is that we have stopped speaking God’s generational truth, in our families, our churches and in our country. Israel forsook God’s generational truth time after time. The Old Testament is full of hundreds of examples. When God’s truths are not obeyed, neglected, or become irrelevant in human eyes, big trouble eventually happens. For the Israelites, they not only lost family and friends, but also homes, land, and their livelihood, and they suffered pandemic after pandemic, starvation, slavery, and persecution. Leaving God’s generational truth led to sin, which drove them further and further away from God, their Redeemer, their King, their Protector! When we choose to leave just one of God’s truths found in His Word, it becomes easier to leave another and another. Eventually we no longer know what “truth” is. God’s Word tells us in Hebrews 10:26: “For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment.” 1 John 1:5-10 reads as follows: “If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.” Do you want to know what real truth is and how we can live generational truth? Look no further than God Himself and His Word. Deuteronomy 6:5-9 says: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your home and on your gates.” The power of God’s Word and His truth is what protects us spiritually, physically, and mentally. God’s truth restricts Satan’s access into our lives and minds. God’s Word preserves us; it protects us from damage and decay! Just like a jar of fresh-made jam, if the jam is not preserved properly, it gets moldy and inedible! God’s Word preserves, protects and keeps our lives useable for him. Jesus said, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) Again, Jesus said to Phillip in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” In John 17:14, 17 we read that Jesus said, “I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of this world, just as I am not of this world. . . Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” “The Spirit of Truth, God gave to you. He is your guide For all that you do. He is full of power, He’s mighty and strong. He’s full of light. He’ll not lead you wrong. The Spirit of Truth Is all-wise, all-knowing. He’ll intercede for you With His groaning. He is everywhere, Ever-present, ever near. He will give you courage To face your every fear. The Spirit of Truth Will keep pursuing you Until you see the light Of all things true!” (by Deborah Ann) “Where I found truth, there found I my God, Who is the truth itself.” (Augustine) “To secure one’s freedom the Christian must experience God’s light, which is God’s truth.” (Watchman Nee) “God never made a promise that was too good to be true.” (Dwight L. Moody) “Never forget that the true secret to knowing True Truth Can only be found in God and His Word.” (Kathy) “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Jesus - John 8:31-32)
