Struggling with pain, he had a lot of questions for the doctor and was reassured he was well on the road to a good recovery! That same day our youngest grandson wrote this letter to God:
“Dear Jesus, Is it true that a miracle is performed every day? Thank you for a life on earth and eternal life in heaven. I love you, Jesus. Can you please help my Grampy’s leg to heal?” Karson Anyone in need of a miracle or two? Know this, God is in the miracle-working business each and every day! Lord, give us eyes to see! Miracles are surprising and welcoming events that cannot be explained by natural or scientific laws. They are extraordinary, improbable, and amazing occurrences. Some miracles are big, obvious, and forever etched on our hearts and minds. Others are overlooked, forgotten or taken for granted. In my blog today I will be sharing some thoughts from the book of Exodus. Here we find Moses and the Israelites traveling to the “Promised Land.” They had experienced God’s miracles time and time again while on this journey. Yet, on any given day, those miracles were overlooked and forgotten. This led to 40 years of wandering in a desert, wearing the same clothes and eating manna every day! Sounds like fun! From the beginning of time God has shown forth His power and might through miracles. “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:16-17) Impossibilities are God’s specialty! They show forth God’s glory vividly! What does that mean exactly? It means to see with strong, powerful feelings, clearly and intensely! Recognizing and acknowledging God’s daily miracles in our lives is not something that comes naturally to sinful man, as we can see so clearly in the Israelites’ lives. Did you know that Exodus contains more miracles than any other book in the Bible? With the miracles came some major potholes, setbacks, and even a few mountains that would have to be climbed. In order to understand the magnitude and importance of the miracles, they had to understand why they needed a miracle in the first place. God’s miracles only come through obedience to the Miracle Giver, God Himself. You would have thought seeing God’s mighty hand up close and personal would have caused a drastic change in their lives – a total dependence on God and obedience to their Creator God. But no! With the miracles came suffering, distress, calamities, difficulties, hard struggles and even death! Why? Because of disobedience, bad choices, and lack of taking responsibility for their own actions. In other words, hard, hard consequences. Dr. Stanley says, “When Israel entered the Promised Land at God’s direction, it had to face strong enemy opposition. God rarely empties our lives of trouble and conflict. If He did, our dependence on Him would fade. He allows enough difficulty to keep us turned toward Him.” “Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses said to the people, ‘You have committed a great sin. So now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.’ Then Moses returned to the Lord and said, ‘Oh these people have committed a great sin, and have made for themselves a god of gold! Yet now, if You will forgive their sin – but if not, I pray, blot me out of Your book which You have written.’” (Exodus 32:30-32) Wow! What a statement on Moses’ part! Giving up his own life for the salvation of a stiffed-necked, stubborn, willful, sinful people! Sound like someone else you know? (Jesus!) “And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him out of My book. Now therefore, go lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my Angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I visit for punishment, I will visit punishment upon them for their sin.’ So the Lord plagued the people because of what they did with the calf, which Aaron made.” (Exodus 32:33-35) Understanding the magnitude of God’s saving grace in our lives is the miracle of all miracles. Acknowledging that miracle everyday brings light into the darkness, courage to the weak, healing to the broken and forgiveness to the world. Every morning that God allows you to wake up, walk, talk, hear, see, work, play, love, or give, is a miracle from your Heavenly Father. God’s miracles, however, do not stop there. The miracle of all miracles is our salvation, and that salvation encompasses His mercy, His grace, His truth, His patience, His forgiveness, His righteousness, His faithfulness, and His love to each of us. Wow!! God’s work in our lives is about Him solidifying His miracle-working power into our hearts and minds on a daily basis. These are internal and eternal miracles, not circumstantial. They happen at the moment of salvation and our surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ and our acknowledgement of sin in our lives and the asking for forgiveness. That miracle sends us on a lifelong journey of seeking the miracle-giver God Himself, His Son, our Savior, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit everyday we live this side of eternity. “His faithfulness fails not; it meets each new day with guidance for every new step of the way; New grace for a new trial, new trust for old fears, New patience for hearing the wrongs of the years, New strength for new burdens, new courage for old, New faith for whatever the day may unfold. As fresh for each need as the dew on the sod; Oh, new every morning are the mercies of God!” (And might I add, Oh, new every morning are the miracles of God!) By Annie Johnson Flint Living each day in light of God’s amazing miracle of salvation should be the song of our heart to the world around us. “Look to the Lord and His strength; seek His face always. You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is not water. “Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You. “Blessed are those who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.” (1 Chronicles 16:11; Psalm 63:1; Psalm 9:10; Psalm 119:2; Jeremiah 29:13) Peace, genuine peace, will come to each of us if we focus our hearts and minds on God’s amazing gift of salvation each and every day! Oh, what an amazing miracle!! “Thank You, Father God, for sending your only Son to die on a cross to suffer unimaginable things by taking on my sin and all of mankind’s from the beginning of time. Thank You for Your forgiveness, grace, mercy, and love in my life. Thank You for Your sustaining power through the Holy Spirit! Father God, please bring to remembrance each and every day the magnitude of this amazing gift given to me. Amen.”
